BLK MKT Vintage is a Brooklyn, NY-based antique/vintage concept shop, specializing in collectibles, cast-off’s and curiosities, which represent the richness of Black history and lived experience. Curated by founders Jannah Handy and Kiyanna Stewart, the collection includes found items like vintage literature, vinyl records, clothing, art, housewares/decor, furniture and other goods. Brooklyn-natives Kiyanna Stewart and Jannah Handy founded BLK MKT Vintage in November 2014.

With over fifteen years of collecting and picking experience combined, Stewart and Handy both have an affinity for vintage wares and the narratives inherent in Black folks’ cultural production throughout history. BLK MKT Vintage is a curated love story.

In their own words:

“Our motivation to build a collection that mirrors multifarious Black cultural expression is rooted in our love for Black people, Black culture and our own lived experiences. We approach our work as cultural historians and encourage you to join us in bringing history & antiquity into your everyday lives. By centering Black cultural artifacts via thoughtful curation and varying modes of accessibility, we’re communicating very explicitly to Black folks that ‘not only do we see you, but we love you as well. You’re worthy. What you’ve created is worthy. You are important here.'”

The BLK MKT Vintage collection is available via their shop in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and their e-commerce shop, while select items are available via their stockists — Brooklyn Museum, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and Ethel’s Club. Their work includes curating a robust brick and mortar & e-commerce shop, interior styling, prop rental/set design, exhibition loans and other special curatorial-based projects that center the relationship between Black people, material culture, memory and the contemporary.
